CREATING A BUDGET-FRIENDLY BOHO FARMHOUSE BATHROOM MAKEOVER
I love the boho farmhouse look and love that these accessories lean towards a masculine aesthetic while still appealing to the feminine sensibilities. Whenever I makeover a room in our home, I look for ways to honor the entire family’s style. I think all good design should incorporate both feminine and masculine elements.
TIP 1 FOR CREATING A BUDGET-FRIENDLY BATHROOM MAKEOVER: ADD TEXTURE AND INTEREST TO THE WALLS!
Paint, stencils, wainscoting, trim, and wallpaper spice up your space and add a layer of interest and texture to the room. I used several rolls of a peel and stick faux grosgrain wallpaper linked on my source page and love the texture and beauty it provides! Am I worried it will fall off the walls due to moisture and humidity? Why yes, yes I am. Time will tell if this was a smart decor move on my part, but I sometimes like to take risks and hope for the best! I’ll keep you updated. In the meantime, the walls look fantastic!
TIP 2 FOR CREATING A BUDGET-FRIENDLY BATHROOM MAKEOVER: UPDATE THE MIRROR AND LIGHTING.
Frameless slab mirrors and inexpensive bar lighting can make your bathroom look dated. Switching out the light fixture and adding a round mirror completely transformed the look of the space.
TIP 3 FOR CREATING A BUDGET-FRIENDLY BATHROOM MAKEOVER: CHOOSE AFFORDABLE ACCESSORIES TO COMPLETE YOUR LOOK!
TIP 4 FOR CREATING A BUDGET-FRIENDLY BATHROOM MAKEOVER: USE YOUR TOWELS AS ACCESSORIES!
Bathroom towels are obvious necessities in your bath, so why not incorporate them into the design and show them off? All of my boys (big and little) somehow have a mental block against folding a towel and hanging it over a towel bar.

Quick & simple bathroom makeover – Using only accessories
Our bathroom is one of those rooms I feel overwhelmed with styling – whilst I’d love a whole new suite, that isn’t financially possible at the moment, so I’ve had to be creative with how I decorate it instead. So rather than ripping everything out, I’ve done what I can with accessories only. On top of that, space is the tight meaning I’ve had to be careful. Simple is best when tackling small rooms – the last thing you want is for a space to become over-cluttered, and therefore appear even smaller. As you can tell this hasn’t been an easy makeover.
Step 1: Greenery
I’ve tried to make the most of the boring shelf behind the bathtub by creating a large focal point through a faux plant display. I’ve filled a vase with some faux eucalyptus stems – a reasonable choice at just a few pounds a stem from IKEA, and are some of the best quality I’ve come across.
Step 2: Clever storage
My main purchase for this room was these ladder shelves, again from IKEA. They fill this space by the door perfectly and are the ideal spot to display decorative accessories in a simple, but effective way. Don’t be tempted to over-style, leaving what’s called ‘negative space’ on some shelves can create an illusion of space and trick the eye into thinking the room is bigger than it is.
I’ve added some candles to create a cozy atmosphere, stored some flannels and loo rolls away in lots of little baskets, and filled some large IKEA jars with cotton wool balls and shells.
Step 3: Bath caddy
After searching high and low for a wooden bath caddy or shelf, of which I’d seen so many beautiful ones on Instagram, my husband managed to track me one down on Amazon of all places. This works to jazz up the boring bathtub a bit and give you another space to style and add some character. I use it to display some toiletries, a beautiful glass jar filled with cotton pads, and yet another succulent, of course.
Step 4: Accessories
And finally, probably the most important bit – accessorizing! I promise no space can’t be improved with a few well-styled items. Think candles to create a relaxing, spa-like atmosphere, fluffy towels or stylish beauty products. Choose items that are of a similar color palette to make your overall look ties together.
